Metformin is an oral diabetes medicine that helps control blood sugar levels. Metformin is used together with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control produced in the liver for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
How to use This medication should be taken with meals to help reduce stomach or bowel side effects that may occur during the first few weeks of treatment. Drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication unless otherwise directed by your doctor. The dosage is based on your medical condition, response to treatment, and other medications you may be taking. Be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, non-prescription drugs, and herbal products). Consult your doctor before using this drug.
Possible side effects Nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, diarrhea, weakness, or a metallic taste in the mouth may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
